LCI Method ApproachesAllocation - mass
LCI Method DeviationsSystem expansion for biological nitrogen fixation (modelled as avoided nitrogen fertilizer for next crop in rotation)
Modelling ConstantsNone stated
Modelling Constant DeviationsNone stated
Data Cutoff/Completeness PrinciplesAll inputs of fertilizer, crop protections, seed, direct fuel use and electricity are included. Irrigation energy and infrastructure/machinery production was not included.
Deviations from Cutoff/Completeness PrinciplesNone stated
Data Selection/Combination PrinciplesSite-specific field data were collected via survey from prairie province pea producers for crop rotation, seeding rate, machinery and fuel use for field operations (e.g., tillage, harrowing, harvest), farm inputs (e.g., fertilizers, pesticides), and electricity for crop drying. Production weighted averages were calculated for the region. Outliers were removed from reported fuel use data based on visual inspection. Transportation was estimated based on the distance from the production locations to the centroid of the region for fertilizer and crop protection inputs. Fuel and seed transportation distances were estimated based on the distances presented in Life cycle assessment of Alberta pea production (Alberta Agriculture and Forestry 2018).
Deviations from Selection/Combination PrinciplesNone stated
Data Treatment and Extrapolation PrinciplesThe geographical location of each farm was used to identify the RU and AAFC Reporting Zone to which each farm belongs. Production-weighted average dataset were calculated for each ecozone.
Deviations from Treatment and Extrapolation PrinciplesNone stated
Supply Coverage2.5
Dataset Use AdvicePercent supply coverage is by area farmed for Alberta, not ecozone 9 since no data available at the ecozone level.
